New Philip Joseph Rae Single- 'She's Animal' Released 08/11/23

Presenting ‘She’s Animal’, the third single from Phillip Joseph Rae’s eagerly anticipated debut album. Following on from the success of previous singles ‘Three Drunken Brothers’ and ‘Sun Keeps Rising’ (including support from BBC Scotland’s Roddy Hart and a full-page feature in The Sunday Times), ‘She’s Animal’ is the third chapter from Phil’s astonishing story.

With ‘She’s Animal’ Rae explores themes of love and fear imagined as a Beast beside us, traversing claustrophobic urban landscapes by way of the sun doused Laurel Canyon kitchen of Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell. It talks of inner struggles with Anxiety, Heartbreak and Fear but ultimately settles on compassion for others and oneself with a call to all those broken that love is there when you need it most.

New single from Philip Joseph Rae - 'Sun Keeps Rising'

The new single from Philip Joseph Rae is available from this Monday. 'Sun Keeps Rising' is a companion piece to Rae's debut 'Three Drunken Bros' and is as heart-wrenching as it is beautiful.

Sunday 18 October 2020

Philip Joseph Rae - 'Three Drunken Brothers' Debut single and video release.

Release date: 19/10/20
Originally written by Rae in 2005 and finally immortalised to tape by Iglomat's David Jack earlier this year, 'Three Drunken Brothers' is a euphoric exploration of three brothers struggling to cope with the fall out of a strict Mormon upbringing. Plagued by mental health issues and fierce intelligence, they turned to alcohol to deal with their inner demons and unite them in their shared trauma. Though tragically on the night of 22nd March 2008, the middle brother died of a methadone overdose and the song’s themes of darkness and coming undone, took on a new lamenting, prophetic edge.

Once described by Mark Ronson as having "The sound of a true Troubadour" Philip Joseph Rae is a Singer/Songwriter from the North East of Scotland. Channeling imagery from a youth spent amongst gorse, birch, fern and pine, He explores themes of love, mental health, Mormonism and grief and is as comfortable narrating an upbeat electro/pop floor filler as he is intimately lamenting the death of a loved one.
Rae has also had a brush with the Mercury Music Prize when Corrine Bailey Rae’s sophomore album ‘The Sea’ , on which he has a writing credit for the song ‘I’d like to call it beauty’ was nominated in 2010.

Iglomat 'Nylon Hook'

New Iglomat single: KFM 072 'Nylon Hook'

Following a whole lot of late-nights, epic file transfers and serious Skype jams, Scots-American shape-shifters Iglomat are back with their fourth full length work, the poignantly titled The Man Made Man. Like a transatlantic Ghidora, the three heads of Iglomat operate across timezones and area codes to concoct a heady brew of post-rock inflected electronics.
Lead single Nylon Hook sets the tone for a looser, organic sound that relies less on found samples and more on live sounds (these boys and girls are no slouches when it comes to playing actual instruments). The lilting acoustic guitar intro merges into a spooky moog pattern, before an explosion of skittering trap drums, wailing guitar (or is it synth?) and some dusty French vocal samples, all making for a gloriously beautiful mess of music.

Nasty P 'No Tellin' EP, OUT NOW!

No tellin’ features the star-studded line up of Termanology, Reks, Ed O.G and Akrobatik!, while Round again has a more stripped-down sound featuring M.A.D from Groove Armada’s “Superstylin” fame. As the E.P progresses it moves from a solid hip-hop foundation to the more experimental and booming 808 gospel rhythms of “One more time” and the slow but pulsating “Truth Story”. All of which makes for an intro a bit of a Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde journey, but who’d expect anything less from this Edinburgh-based beatsmith?
To those who already know Nasty P, it’s good to have you back, and to those who want to discover more, welcome to the whacked-out world of Rich Mundi..!?

Brand new Joe Nisbet Jr release!

We're excited to announce brand new tracks from the inimitable Mr Niz. Available on Bandcamp right now and the rest of the world next week. Here's some words from the man himself.

"You may (or not) know that musicians can be bitchier than Joan Collins, and I've always relished being opinionated, acerbic, or plain dismissive about people's songwriting. So it is with understandable trepidation that I approach the criticism entailed in the release of my own first foray into original material - which I also arranged, played on and sang. There would appear to be nowhere to hide - I present you with an open goal.

If you don't like it, I can't blame the extraordinary talents and generosity of the brilliant musicians, engineers and biz enablers who have donated enough rope for this auto asphyxiation.

If you don't like it, I will understand entirely and think none the worse of mankind than I already do. I will not cry, I promise I will be in no way upset.

Because most importantly, if you don't like it that means you've listened to it.

And because you've listened to it, let me give you a little background on the tunes -

ALL THE RIGHT REASONS is not about drinking, it is about stopping on a hillside and looking around to see where you actually are. Often a very different place than you thought.

JUDGE NOT is about recognising mistakes. There's a universal theme for you.

TOO BLUE is about feeling so bad that you don't even want to play the guitar in the pub.

HONEY YOU LIE is just a jaunty little pop song. About Westminster. Maybe."

We have a new single from Joe Nisbet Jr out this Monday and its a corker! Check out the video and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.!

Following his critically lauded first album (The Gospel According To Mr Niz), KFM Records is delighted to announce the release of Joe Nisbet Jr's first self-penned song, "JUDGE NOT" on Monday 18th July.

"The positive things people said about the first album gave me the confidence to start writing and recording my own material, which turns out to have a different sound, but doesn't stray far from the usual obsessions - good times, regrets, early r'n'b, drinking, and a bad attitude to authority.

Given the nature of the lyric, I knew the song had to be urgent and honest, so we recorded it very quickly and very live with a group of good friends who just happen to be brilliant musicians - they contributed a level of personality and attitude that you don't often get in the studio - and I think that comes across - although it sounds like a badly behaved gospel meeting in a New Orleans hip-hop club, it's actually a punk record at heart."

“Judge Not just got my bones, makes me happy. I don't why, but I'm crazy in love with this song. I can't remember when something last made me feel so happy!!! Tell your friend,it's such a wonderful song, I haven't danced alone like this in years!!!xxxxx I got to stop playing it or I'll wear it out...just one more time though....here we go again.....”

Recorded and mixed by Brian McNeil at Bert's in Glen Lyon and Rocket Science Glasgow.

Video for "Tic Tac Toe" taken from the 3rd Iglomat album - "Iglomat III"
This clip was once again shot, edited and directed for Iglomat by fast-rising Essex-based filmmaker, Angus Burgess.

Monday 2 November 2015

Following their acclaimed composition for Walid Salhab’s short The Kelpies, transatlantic post-rockists Iglomat are back with Jen 68, a melancholic ode to being young, free and out there.
As ever with the Iglomat crew, the track is a product of late nights and early mornings, heavy file transfers and even heavier Skype jams. While some songs from the recent album ’iii’ have seen the introduction of lyrics, Jen 68 is an evocative instrumental collage built around stuttering beats, cut-up samples and plaintive guitar – augmented this time round by the spooky-beautiful piano skills of Jennifer Austin (Wildings, Rachel Sermanni).
Shot, edited and directed by fast-rising Essex-based filmmaker, Angus Burgess (who also makes a fleeting, piggy-backed cameo appearance) the accompanying video is a lazy, hazy tale of teenage dreams and distant memories of summers past.

Play it loud, at sunset, in your mom’s station wagon.

Tuesday 26 May 2015

To coincide with the release of Iglomat’s 3rd album the band have produced a new video for the track “King Of The Sun”.

“King Of The Sun” features haunting vocal performances from Rachel Sermanni and Jennifer Austin. Rachel is one of the UK’s most respected young singer songwriters and Iglomat are thrilled that she could be involved in the album. Rachel and Jennifer contributed vocals to “King Of The Sun” and to “No Place Like Home” with Jennifer also contributing piano on the aptly named “Jen 68″.

Produced by the band the video is a portrait of loss of innocence and regret. A melancholic reflection on growing up and what it means to come to terms with the realities of life.
